Originally from Mumbai, India, Delon has worked as a chef for over 25 years - mostly in Airline catering as the Halal Kitchen and Special Diet Sous Chef whcih included cooking meals for Air New Zealand, Qantas, Emirates and Qatar. In his current role, he has a team of 20 who report to him, who provide 6500 meals to 23 schools in West and Central, East Auckland on a daily basis.
When not at work Delon loves to spend time with my family, going for walks, surfing the web, having a beer with his mates, and going to church on Sunday.
When Quantity Surveyor (QS), Tyler Watkins left school at 18, she like many school leavers had no idea what she wanted to be or do but a taste of the construction industry in a previous, led to a Diploma in Construction Management, eventually joining our Hawkins whanau three years ago. From a small toilet upgrade, to a hospital theatre fit out, to a brand-new mental health facility and now a seismic upgrade with a fit out attached - she's already worked on a wide variety of projects during her time with Hawkins, and her career keeps going from strength to strength.
Whilst Downer's Transport team delivered the roading upgrades, our Facilities Greenspace team carried out all of the soft landscaping work which now lines this gateway to Wellington city. Taking out the “Best public works project over $5m” at the recent IPWEA New Zealand Awards, the team supplied and planted approximately 37,000 local eco-sourced plants, which were established over two stages of planting across year one and year two of the project.
