We are committed to the diversity and well-being of our people!

At Downer, our people are our strength. We want each and every one of our 11,000 people to feel empowered and bring their most authentic selves to work!

Through our Own Different diversity campaign, we showcase our people’s differences. Different is more than just where you come from or what you look like. Different is in the way you think, the actions you take and the unique perspective you as an individual can bring to the table. This difference is what makes has made us one of New Zealand’s leading infrastructure companies for over 150 years.

We became rainbow tick certified in 2021 and have a multitude of initiatives that showcase our commitment to inclusion and belonging, which support and enable our people to grow into even more awesome humans.

Women succeed at Downer

At Downer, we believe individuality makes us stronger, so we want you to bring what you love best to the job every day. With programmes to support, mentor and develop our female workforce, Downer is a great place to build your future.

Wāhine Kotahitanga (WK) is all about supporting young women who are embarking on a career within the construction industry. Wāhine Kotahitanga means women united, and links back to the purpose of the group – to bring women together to grow and to change the ‘status quo of the industry.

Wāhine Kotahitanga’s mission statement is: “To establish a network and programme that support, build, empower and retain female graduate engineers and cadets entering construction and infrastructure”.

Meet some of our members below and find out how WK has helped to support them so far:

From our whanau to yours - this initiative gives the children and grandchildren of Downer employees the opportunity to be granted with a scholarship of $5,000 for a year of tertiary study.

These scholarships are open for all types of tertiary study and does not have to be related to the industries in which Downer operates in.

Regardless of the area of study (it does not have to be related to the industries in which Downer operates), the Whānau Scholarships are an opportunity to lend a hand and help grow the next generation of leaders, by supporting our people’s people. We know how important family is to our people, and that further education can provide a great stepping stone for the future.
